Kawartha Lakes Squadron

Kawartha Lakes Squadron is part of a nationwide organization of boating enthusiasts whose aims are to increase boating safety and enjoyment by providing instruction in all phases of seamanship and navigation, both power and sail.

Kawartha Lakes Squadron is a charitable, non profit, membership type of organization, with all teaching and administration work being done by volunteers.

All of our classes are taught at the Ops Fire Hall near Lindsay (just east of Hwy 7/36).

Safe Boating Instruction in the City of Kawartha Lakes

Don’t get caught without your Pleasure Craft Operator Card and having to pay the $250.00 fine. Get your card from CPS in the classroom or online.

The CPS PCOC course is approved by Transport Canada and is the only card in Canada approved by the National Association of State Boating Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the United States Coast Guard. A complementary membership is available for those taking the course.

RVCC - Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks

Have you ever wondered whether or not your boat is properly equipped? When you see the marine detachment approaching do you get a sinking feeling (no pun intended) in the pit of your stomach? Even the most experienced boaters have some difficulty keeping up with the requirements outlined by Transport Canada. Well, we have the solution for you!

The program is called the RVCC (Recreational Vessel Courtesy Check) and it is in partnership with Transport Canada. CPS and your local Lindsay Squadron want to lead the way.

The check itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes and consists of a visual check of safety equipment (personal, fire, signalling and navigational) according to size of boat and the DOT's small vessel regulations. A two-part form is filled out, one part for the boater and the other for Transport Canada. If the vessel being inspected is fully in compliance with the safe boating regulations a windshield sticker is awarded. This is an annual check so the stickers are marked with the year they are issued. If the vessel is non-compliant the owner will be given an opportunity to return with his part of the form and evidence that he is now compliant, at which time we will re-inspect that portion of his safety equipment and issue a sticker.
