Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive a one-year complimentary Associate Membership to CPS, with its benefits. CPS is a provider of safe boating courses approved by both Transport Canada and the U.S. National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

4 Tuesday evenings - 1900 to 2130
(March 9th, 23rd, 30th and April 6th)
Now that the cost of radar has been drastically reduced to the point where entry level units can be had for about $1200, many boaters want to learn more about this valuable safety device.
This new CPS course, "Radar for Pleasure Craft" teaches the use and capabilities of marine radar. You learn how to interpret the screen, how to use the various controls, how to measure distance and bearing to other boats and to hazards.
You learn about radar's abilities and limitations. It is important that you understand the meaning of a unit's specifications when selecting a radar and the course explains these.
This course manual has over 130 pages and also comes with a CD that can be used on a PC computer. Among the CD's various features is a radar simulator that allows you try out the common radar controls including VRM, EBL, ERBL, etc.
Learn collision avoidance in the safety of your home using the simulator's MARPA capability.

FOUR Tuesday Nights (April 20th, 27th and May4th & 11th)
Be prepared to write the exam for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement. To operate a maritime radio, you need the certificate. It is the law!
The Maritime Radio course teaches emergency radio procedures, as well as everyday operating techniques to you and your family.
In module 1 , you will be taught the uses of marine radios, choice of frequencies, operation, phonetic alphabet, procedural words and phrases.Module 2 covers Digital Selective Calling and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, (DSC/GMDSS). All mariners, including recreational boaters, will want to take advantage of the many features and capabilities of this innovative form “automatic” radio.

Catholic Central High School Room: 101 London, Ontario Squadron: London Course: DSC Endorsement Apr 20 Marine Radio - DSC upgrade
2 Nights - Class & Exam (May 4th & 11)
With the new DSC format up and operational for the Great Lakes area as of September of 2007, it is time for you to upgrade your present VHF certificate, to include the new DSC portion of the mandatory certification, to allow you the benefits of this new technology. Just imagine, sending a pre-determined, fixed, call for assistance, at the push of a button and allowing you the freedom to deal with the emergency at hand. You may choose to take the whole course again (beginning Tuesday October 6th), as a refresher, or choose only to upgrade your current certification to include the DSC portion only (you then would not be required to attend all 4 sessions).
Note that if you choose the DSC upgrade portion only, you must show proof of current VHF certification .

In cooperation with the Port Franks Yacht Club, London Power and Sail Squadron is conducting a PCOC Challenge Exam in Port Franks on Sunday May 23rd, 2010 .
On the preceding day, Saturday May 22nd a Boat-Pro (PCOC) seminar will also be offered starting at 1230 (Approved Boating Handbooks will be available for $16.00 and CDs for $5.00)
